Our Story

It was in January 1992 over an evening drink at Kakungulu Club, when Rtn. Robert Rutaagi of Rotary Club of Kampala initiated the idea of forming a Rotary Club to cater for Ntinda residents.  Present then was Joseph Mulenga, Gabriel Kangwagye, Dan Mpungu, John Kiwanuka, Elijah Ssekanwagi, Caleb Tukaikiriza, Peter Mpanga and Valentine Mwase.

In March 1992, the Provisional Rotary Club of Ntinda was started by Rtn, Robert Rutaagi and Rtn. Jotham Musinguzi.  On 23rd October 1992, a formal application to be admitted to Rotary International was submitted to Rotary International.  On 14th January 1993, Rotary Club of Ntinda was admitted to the Rotary International fraternity.

On 6th March 1993, the Rotary Club of Ntinda held its Charter Celebration at a very colourful ceremony presided over by the then Rt. Hon. Prime of Uganda, Mr. Cosmas Adyebo (RIP) at Athina Club, Kololo.  Two months later, the Rotary Club of Ntinda was recognized at the May 1993, 68th District Conference and Assembly, held at White Sands Beach Hotel Mombasa. At the Conference the Club was represented by Rotarians Chris Were and Dan Mpungu, young Rotarians at the time.

Since then, the Rotary Club of Ntinda meets every Friday for Fellowship from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

The name Ntinda comes from the Luganda word (Olutindo), which means bridge.  The Bridge as a Club symbol represents a bridge across culture, social status, gender and friendship.
